What should my son wear for his senior portraits?
There are no set rules for clothing for guys’ senior portraits but here are some good guidelines:
1. Solid colors are best. We want the attention going to the face, not the clothing, so avoid graphic tees, big logos and bold patterns.
2. Long sleeves and long pants are my fav. You see short sleeves in the examples so this is not a hard and fast rule but if I have a choice, I will usually go with the long sleeves. If your son wears nothing but shorts, we should include them but bring at least one pair of long pants.
3. Shoes. The feet will show in some of the portraits but we don’t want them to take attention. Dark, solid colored shoes are unobtrusive so are a safe bet.
4. Variety. Think about including different looks like:
✅ Casual Everyday — Clean, dark jeans, a solid tee or polo, and sneakers. Keep it crisp and simple.
✅Dressy or Polished — A button-down shirt, blazer, or even a tux. Perfect for timeless portraits.
✅Personal Statement — Something tied to your hobbies or passions: a sports uniform, leather jacket, cowboy boots, or even including your car, guitar, or skateboard as props.
How many outfits should he bring to his senior session?
3-5 outfits is great. Feel free to bring more, if you can’t make up your mind.
